She found her way to the gym through strength training and Taekwondo. She soon transitioned from participant to trainer on the gym floor. As an instructor, she successfully taught classes such as Spinning, Bodypump, Bodyvive, and spinal health exercises for many years, and repeatedly came into contact with Pilates.

As luck would have it, she met [someone] at the international trade fair "FIBO" ...met the instructors from Merrithew/STOTT Pilates. It was love at first sight. "It is exactly what I had always been looking for. Pilates complements other sports so perfectly," she says today.

Lengthening the muscles, moving the spine in all directions, stretching the body... simply wonderful.

Alongside her full-time career, she successfully completed her training as a fitness instructor at the Federal Sports Academy.

Before founding the PILATES ZENTRUM in Friedberg, Hesse, in 2011, Petra Weitzel had already been working part-time as an instructor in gyms and clubs, as well as a personal trainer. She is a trained and licensed fitness instructor, a certified STOTT Pilates instructor, and a premium member of the German Pilates Association.

I am curious and question everything. I don't simply follow anyone blindly. If something proves to be right for me, I integrate it into my practice.

I have achieved my goal:

  • when a person feels connected to their body (again); goes home feeling elongated, upright, and in good spirits; and sees improvements in their posture and mobility.
  • when someone who is not particularly athletic attends Pilates sessions consistently and regularly.
  • when I hear from clients that they missed Pilates because they couldn't make it to a session.

Pilates is not just my job. Pilates is my calling.

Beyond the Pilates principles, success in Pilates requires discipline and perseverance. You have to truly want it. That is why I expect a certain level of self-discipline and willpower from all my Pilates clients, as well as active participation and the practice of exercises at home.

You cannot undo years of neglect with just one hour of Pilates a week! It might soothe your conscience, though.
